I was at a function many years ago for the launch of a new vehicle. One of the speakers, who had the duty of opening the Champagne by way of a Sabrage, said the following: “How many of you have life insurance?” Everybody’s hands went up. “How many of you have medical insurance?” Everybody put their hands up. “How many of you have short-term insurance?” Everybody put their hands up. “So,” he says, “everyone here is expecting that something bad might happen to you?” Everybody nodded. His next question was the one that blew me away. He said, “So how many of you have a bottle of Champagne in the fridge for when something good happens?” There were very few hands that went up. That really made me think about how I celebrate my wins in life.
CELEBRATING SMALL WINS
As I mentioned in one of my previous blogs, I really struggle to read. A book really needs to catch me in the first few pages; otherwise, I will stop. One of the books that captured my attention was The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma. In one of the chapters, he talks about the fact that we all have this big goal in life, and he calls it your lighthouse. When the light of the lighthouse is shining away from you, then your goal is not that clear, but when the light shines your way, then you must never forget to pick up the diamonds along the way.
I think what Sharma is referring to is that we must never forget to celebrate the small wins along the way when we are traveling towards this big goal. I have always been quite hard on myself when it comes to pursuing and achieving goals and, therefore, I have never really celebrated any wins along the way.
Recently, I’ve been making a conscious effort to recognize even the smallest achievements along the way. It’s amazing how much it boosts morale and makes everyone feel valued. We’re all so focused on our business goals, but sometimes we overlook other important areas of life. Have you ever thought about setting goals for your family, health, friendships, or spirituality? It dawned on me that I haven’t been setting as many personal goals as I have for my business. Success means different things to different people. For me, it’s not just about financial success or material possessions. It’s about finding a balance and fulfillment in work, family, health, friendships, and spiritual growth.
Let’s celebrate every aspect of our lives – our health, our loved ones, our friends, and our spiritual journey – every single day. Because you never know what tomorrow holds.
