Tips on How to Unwind in the Festive Season
I don’t know about you, but I start feeling a bit anxious about the festive season because I know there is still so much to do and so little time. 2024 has not been an easy year for all our citizens in this beautiful country we call home. The May elections cast a lot of doubt in many people’s minds, and that uncertainty also filtered through to business as the months passed.
I am incredibly grateful that we have leaders in this country who had the emotional intelligence to realize that a Government of National Unity is the only option. Often referred to as GNU (which also refers to a wildebeest, a rather unpredictable wild animal), it gives us hope for stability.
So, what are your plans for the festive season, and how are you planning to recharge your batteries for 2025? Everybody has their own way of recharging, and it’s all about finding the balance between your spouse, children, and personal time. My wife recharges through spending time with others, whereas I recharge in nature and away from people. We’ve found a great balance, and our holidays help us both unwind and prepare for the year ahead.
Let’s dive into some practical tips to help you recharge this festive season!
Switch Off Your Mobile Phone
If you’re a doctor or someone on call, it’s understandable that you need your phone nearby. But if you’re not, consider switching it off or leaving it in another room during your holiday. Phones often trap us into checking for messages every few minutes. Use this time to wean yourself off your phone and truly disconnect from the digital world.
Prioritize Family Time
You might think you’re connecting with your family during the year, but often we’re too busy or distracted to form meaningful bonds. The festive season offers a unique opportunity to reconnect when everyone is more relaxed. This is the time to reflect on the year that has passed and make plans for 2025. Use these moments wisely to deepen your connections with your loved ones.
Celebrate Friendships
The festive season is perfect for reconnecting with friends and showing them appreciation. Treasure the memories you create with your friends and their families. Being grateful for great friendships is vital, and this is the time to let them know how much they mean to you.
Stay Healthy
Many people train hard to look good for December, only to undo all their efforts during the holiday. Increased alcohol consumption and lack of exercise can leave you feeling sluggish. Make a point to stay active, even during the holidays. Don’t start January 2025 wishing you had taken better care of yourself!
Manage Your Finances
While the festive season is a time of giving, it’s important not to overextend yourself financially. Start 2025 on a positive note by avoiding unnecessary debt. Be generous, enjoy each day, but remain responsible with your finances.
I truly hope you have an incredible festive season and create amazing memories with friends and family. May 2025 be a special year for you and your loved ones.
